Can I put a B20A5 or B20A1 in a CRX?
why would it sit that low a lot of people think the b20 is so much bigger than the b18 blocks it's not it's just a bored out and alittle stroked b18 block but it's just a tad bigger it will work just don't get a kit that you have to shimmy the motor down! i'm trying to find a cheap b20 block so i can send to endyn
A friend of mine is trying to build a B20/itr right now to put in his CRX. It seems 12.20 aren't fast enough for a street car. He already beat a viper but oh well. I thought that all b-series blocks are about the same as far as mounting, just like a B18c or B16a. Just curious....
OK, it's time to clear up some B20 misconceptions:
First off, let's understand the differences betweent he B20 models. THe B20A and B21A were in the 88-91 Prelude Si's. These are without a doubt one of the worst motors Honda has ever made, they were stroked like a big block with a rod/stroke ratio that was abysmial, as seen by their 6k rpm redline...it was such a poor design that notice HOnda never used it again...don't even thing about using one of these for any serious buildup, they can't take it, plus, they only made like 135hp...les than a B18B
The other B20's are from the 97-01 CRV. THe 97-98 models had the B20B which is essentially a bored out B18B, but with additional cylender strengthening and a wider bore than the rest of the B series (84mm as opposed to 81mm). The crank and head, and rods are the same as the B18B more or less.
The 99+ CRV's used the B20Z which has a higher compression rato and different intake manifold than the B20B as well as an uprated oil pump. These later B20's are probably the best engine Honda makes, mate it with a VTEC head and you are good to go, or set it up for FI or even destroke it with a B17 crank and have a 1.8 liter motor with the ideal rod/stroke ratio of the B16A.
As for fitting in a CRX, we'll leave the B20A out of the converstion because it's not even worth your time or effort. THe B20B/Z will fot just fine in a CRX, 1G or 2g, in fact, it fits just like a B18B or B18C, and we know that there are lots of those out there. THe B20 is no bigger or heavier, it just has more displacement. It will fit fine and make for a Damn fast CRX. IT's just like any B series swap in that you need motor mounts, wiring harness, ECU, cable B series tranny (Y1, S1, J1, YS1), etc...
I had planned to put a B20Z into an 88Si but now I"m going to keep the GSR and put the B20 in that and make a Spec Miata as a race car. Still though, the B20B/Z will fit fine in a CRX, no real clearance or weight issues at all. Go for it.

Sonic...thanks for some insight on the b20's. i'm going that route and thinking of a b21a in my crx. Doesent the b21a have more torque than say a b18a/b and the b20's? Is it worth the trouble??
It's not worth it at all. If you want a torquey motor get a B20Z...the B21A is even worse than the B20A...i mean really...Honda never made a motor with such geometry again...the B21A is probably the absoulte worst motor Honda ever made...don't do it....Get a B20Z and have all the torque you need. Yes, it does have slightly more torque than the other B's due to i's incredably long stroke, but i the end it will be slower than the later B20's due to their broader powerband. Think about it this way, if you put a B21 crank in a regular B20, you'd have a 2.3 liter motor, it strokes a motor with merely OK r/s ratio by .3 liters...it's way too much stroke for such a small motor.

Why in the hell did you bump it with a reply?
I don't even think either of the members originally posting come here anymore.
And if I remember correctly, Innovatives mount kit is for b18-b20b/z motors and not the bastardized Prelude motor.

I realize I probably should not have replied to this, but WTF? At least there was a search LOL.
