Lightweight Audio Components
Does anyone know of some lightweight audio components? I loved my bros car, and it bumped like nothing i've ever been in, but his subs were like 40lb... i'm too perf. oriented to put that much weight in...
Actually, your just going to have to make better product decisions this time around. A system does not have to weight your car down if you do things right. Use fiberglass as much as possible over wood and use a single ten or maybe a twelve. I sell many brands that would work well for you and I can build a fiberglass enclosure for you at a good price, if I have access to the same model as yours. Let me know if I can help you. see e-mail below.
id also go with fiberglass. i know the kicker solobareks (dont know the spelling) take alot less airspace than the others. less air space = less materials = less weight

If you really want small...how about no enclosure...try an AP or IB design. Sure they are a bit more difficult to implement, but you get an extremely accurate low end if you pick the correct drivers and get the install right....that should save you 30lbs+ over a traditional sub design.

What do you think of the 10W7 or 12W7 from JL Audio? They're heavy, but would one have some good kick?

If you want lightweight, you want Illusion Audio
bottom line
Sure it will costs you a bit more for installation but the materials used in their horns and subs will weigh much less than a component set and a huge box that is mainly used to hold the now popular huge magnet
lol

Also, just because you have removed the magnet and placed it on the front side of the motor, you still need a large enough box to get the alignment you want.
Illusion is all SQ, so don't expect too much spl from them. If you want weight savings, you don't want W7's. They come in at around 40lbs each, and requre a box with a 1"thick MDF baffle.....that's heavy.
Give a look into Adire Audio Shiva and IDQs. They will save you some weight and are not that pricey. Also you might want to look into maybe something like a 8 or a 10 if you really are weight concious. But depends on what you want. You can get a complete system and stay under like 20 lbs if you really want to. You can go less. The Shiva weighs 14lbs but should be just fine for you and box can weigh as much as 10 but the box I just got done with only weighs 5 lbs. Oh well I am out.

Image Dynamics: http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com - there is only one factory authorized dealer on the net - http://www.sounddomain.com - buy it else where and it has no warranty. You can call them to get a list of authorized dealers in your area.
I would highly recommend the IDQ's. I had one 12 ported (about 1.5 cubes gross) and it was an excellent setup with around 350ish watts.
Hey lou_cypher, where is all the illusion audio coming from these days? I don't see much of their stuff anymore. I love the product though. Especially the mids!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone else- I really like the sound of the Eclipse 86 series woofers, they really don't have much of a magnet so the weight isn't that much. I use these in my personal vehicle and they rock. For a $100 10" woofer they sound great as well. Nice and tight if you put them in the right enclosure.

Illusion is virtually defunct last I heard. They are not shipping any new product, so ****** up what's left out there.
There is on ND12 on eBay right now, a single ND12 and a pair of ND15's being sold at carsound.com and I know where to get someone some ND6.1 components if they are interested. I think solen.ca had one ND15 around as well. Some one is also sellling some CH1 horns over on elitecaraudio.
Sorry, I'm not lou, but that's the only place I know where to get Illusion right now.

Yeah, thats what I thought about that company. Who has the mids and how much? I am an SQ guy, but if I was a flashy guy I would buy them just to put a colored neon behind them so they glow. I did that a while back when I was in Michigan at a shop, but the guy was freakin idiot and blew them up, then we replaced the woofers with some Rockford HE's. That glow from the ND's were cool and they sounded great.
