All Motor Ls
You can get quite a bit. I had 158whp completly untuned on a stock bottom end, stock compression, and that bottom end was burning about 3 quarts of oil in 1500 miles! Member halo made 176whp with an open header again with a healthier stock bottom end.
I'm currently rebuilding from ground up and will be pumpin out much more hp.

i dont think very many people have tried to do an all motor ls setup. It would take some major $ alot of time and a ton of patience to go fast in a ls without forced induction. i have also searched this topic because i also have an ls. from what i have read and researched, the only way my 1.8 liter dohc non vtec is goin fast is with a turbo. U can do an engine swap but thats alot of money for not too much faster of a car. i have just been reading about turbochargers and how they work. went to the library ang got this book thats all about turbos, its very helpful, this way i will know whatt im doing and hopefullt iwont blow anything up
170-175 whp is definitely attainable for a daily driver.
How?
Crower 404's, adjustable cam gears, fpr, safc, skunk2 IM, bore your TB to 62mm, Civic SI pistons and rings (to replace the compression that you'll lose from the 404's.....81.25mm bore), bore and hone the block, 4-1 header w/ 2.5" collector, 2.5" exhaust piping all the way through, and some serious tuning.
BTW this isn't going to be cheap.

The LS isn't really a n/a top end performer to begin with. Its strength is in the midrange. So if you're gunning for usable power on the street, a 4-2-1 header w/ 2" collector will be just fine.
But to get the really serious peak whp numbers that you're after the 4-1 w/ the 2.5" collector will be the way to go. Of course you could always get a hybrid 4-2-1 header w/ 2.5" collector from SMSP, Hytech, and now Comptech if you wanted to retain some of that midrange. But the prices for those headers ($1000+) will scare away most enthusiasts. If you look at the engine package that I suggested you'll notice the parts are tailored towards top end performance (where you see the really big peak whp monsters). If you weren't going for maximum peak whp (but it sounds you you are) then you'd want to build a completely different package.
Milder cams, stock "giraffe" IM, less extensive internal work, 4-2-1 header w/ 2" collector, and 2.25-2.35" exhaust piping {from the header back} would be the route to take for usable midrange power on the street. But now you're down to the 145-155 whp range which isn't really "big" whp nowadays for a B1.

he had LS/VTEC....however he kept blowing it up...i just laughed when his car stopped working when he was gonna race...and then after the race when it was smoking and stuff.. but it was a clean LHD G2 teggy

i bet its probably slow in real life street racing.

bust out your import racing history book people. think back like 5 years. All the 12 and 11sec people ran b18a and b18b's. and remember, this was about 5 YEARS AGO!
I think he was asking assuming you'd be using the car for a daily driver (or at least streetable reliability).
If you want trailor queens.....yeah you can go way higher than 175whp n/a

it was actually pretty fast.. he laid down over 20 at the wheels.. not well over 200 but over 200 all motor.. area 51 did some of his tuning.

yeah the part may be cheaper but now you have to pull the head off, and the difference in compression would be nominal
btw, jus to let people know, peak horsepower really isn't all that. sure it's nice to have but on a ls motor it's hard to reach. if you really wanna beat people in an ls i'd recommend building for low to mid end power, i mean, that is what a ls motor is all about. i have a b20b motor, which is pretty much the same as a ls motor and i'm building it for low end torque. my way is to try to beat ppl off the line before their vtecs or turbos kick in. plus if you're more into jus having fun w/ your car, low end torque is more fun. and if you ever jus cruise w/ ur friend and race light to light, your low end torque is gonna shine! and in traffic, low end is more useful then that high end power that u'll never reach. low end also means some mad-*** burnouts, ok ok ok, i'll shut up about my low end now, haha
