Default Why are the Mid lobes on the intake and exhaust camshafts...

Why are the Mid lobes on the intake and exhaust camshafts for the SH 'taller' than the base models? Does it get more oomf somewhere along the way?

I found in the Helm manual section 6-34 the list and it shows that the MID lobe (intake) on the SH is 37.229 mm while the MID lobe on the Base (manual or SS) is 36.856 mm. The MID lobe (exhaust) on the SH is 36.704 mm while the MID lobe on the Base (manual or SS) is 36.323 mm.

I thought that the two models were basically the same except for the suspension and ATTS ?

What exactly does this do for the SH model?

that is the vtec lobe, i wasn't aware it had more lift on the sh model, maybe that was their way of making up for the extra weight in the sh...i dont think that it is enough difference that you would be able to tell the difference...anyone have the type-s specs to compare to?

Yeah the SH had a more agressive VTEC cam. Likely yo make up for weight.

TYPE SH:

IN EX
DURATION @ 0.50"
225 227

GROSS LIFT w/ 1.55
.448 .415

JDM/USDM H22A/H22A1/H22A4 base:

DURATION @.050"
224 224

GROSS LIFT w/ 1.55
.446 .415

source: CROWER

note: I'm assuming that the cams in the H22A, H22A1, and H22A4 (base) are the same

thanks, It's as I thought. Extra weight and a little extra power to make up for it. I wonder how much it does make up for? hm

Not enough really. Most SH are slower in the 1/4 mile than a base.

sh's were rated at 205 in 2000, with the base rated at 200.

1997 spec is 200 sh, 195 base. the power increase in 1999 was due to a redesign of the exhaust collector.

the SH is only 90lbs heavier than the base. the 5hp was designed to help offset the weight difference, but also to help overcome the action of the ATTS system, which is a big power robber.

wrong. sh's and base were always rated the same. the sportshift models were rated 5hp less.

the power increase in 1999 was due to a redesign of the exhaust collector.
thats what they say. =]
