OMG Your engine bay is spotless! Looks as if the car is brand new. How many miles do you have on your car? Nice detail...

It helps if you clean the engine bay every month to keep build up from forming. The first cleaning is always the hardest. I use sythetic steel wool, a small wire brush, tooth brush, rags, and Simple Green for the degreaser.

As far as polishing it depends on the surface. If the surface is groved and/or scratched you would want to start with a fairly high rough grit sand paper something like 400 grit and work your way down. If the surface it fairly smooth it's best to use the finest grit you can get away with, this will save time and energy. I always finnish sanding with 2000 grit sand paper. After that i clean the area and polish it, i've been using mothers mag and aluminum polish for some time now and it does a pretty good job.

You have to be carful as some parts of the engine are coated with a corosion resistent layer. Sanding and even the polish can remove this layer causeing corosion/rust. If you remove this layer you will have to maintain it buy polishing it regualarly to prevent rust pitting and corrosion. You could also clear coat the part to prevent this.

Mine didn't look much better when i got the car. It's a 93 si hatch almost 10 years old now. My engine bay didn't get to looking like that overnight. It took alot of time and work. If your nuckles and fingers aren't bloody after you finnish cleaning it you didn't do a very good job lol...

So all I have to do is drag my knuckles across some rough services and I will get a similar shine shown above J/K

The engine bay looks very clean man, the one pictured after, looks nearly like the way mine is/was. I should have tried some engine degreaser every once in awhile, I mean I have it, but never used it. How useful I have made it

EDIT: the pictures help too, nice photography work.

Check out these angles people

...that's some good shooting.

Thanks for all your comments.

To me it completes a car. I hate seeing nice clean cars with a dirty engine bay. Thanks for the on my photos, i need to get a tripod. They were all taken with a sony dcr-trv27 miniDV camcorder, if you're not fimilar it's only 1 mega pixel. I am very happy with the quality of the pics it can take, you just have to be very still. I'm loving the video miniDV is very nice.
