Which EF Civic best for autoX?
I'm new here.
I currently drive an Audi, but I'm looking to purchase an EF Civic for autocross purposes. What are the differences between the years 88-91.
I notice that most top performing EF Civics at National Tour events are 1989. Is this a coincidence?
What options should I be looking for (or avoiding) for best autocross performance.
TIA
Steve

I guess the answer to your question can only be reached by asking you a few questions. What if anything do you plan on doing with the car? Do you plan on keeping it stock? If you do plan to keep it stock then the 89 Si might be the best choice because it will be the lightest of the Si's. The DX and STD's are lighter but don't offer the same power or gearing as the Si. Let us know exactly what you plan and we can offer further advice.
I plan on running H Stock.
It also has to be a daily driver, and get to/from autocross courses. I plan on doing Canadian Nationals and 1-2 National Tour events in 2003, and Topeka in 2004.
After that, I may build it into an STS car, depending on whether we adopt that class locally (Canada, West coast).

Your'e talking about a CRX, and he's talking about a Civic. There was no 88 Civic Si. The 89 Civic Si is the lightest of the Civic Si's.
In STS this year, two 89' Si's took 1st and 2nd, and a 5th gen hatch got 3rd. Also i remeber seeing at alot of the regional events EF hatchs doing very well in HS (least till the new mini came along). As for CRX's, I've seen CRX's do deadly things regardless of years, but yea the 88 is usually the best you can shoot for. You gotta remeber any EF is gonna have the natural abilty of being light, having nimble handling, and make good power. They are very good momentum cars is what it comes down to. Here is also the car that won STS this year, enjoy!

either that or get a 89-91 civic STD HB and slap the drivetrain of the wagon AWD into it.. that will be great machine!!
i bought an 88 si with burning oil problems and hard tires and was only 1 sec off the best times ot the itr's and my first ever autox or racing. 88's are lighter. this itr motor fits in it nicely too.
