After marker exhaust vrs. Custom
I bought a crx hf with a sohc zc and I need to get a new exhaust. I wanted to know what would be cheaper to get and which is better performance wise. Any pics would helpme out.
I would choose custom. The pipes, mufflers, and a welding machine from home depot costs about the same as an expensive aftermarket exhaust...so for the same price you get an exhaust plus a welder if you go custom and do it yourself.

There's not much involved in making an exhaust, I don't think it requires tons of R & D. You could even follow the same bends as an aftermarket system, plus you can make it any size you want like 2.5" which not many companies make... I guess it depends on the person who makes it, you could get a custom exhaust made by SMSP and I'm sure that would be better than those mass produced exhausts...

i wouldn't worry too much about custom vs aftermarket. after all, a cat-back doesn't exactly produce huge ammounts of horsepower. i would go with aftermarket however anyways, just because you know you are getting a good product as long as you go with a reputable aftermarket company....greddy, tanabe, etc....
The way I see it is go buy a univrsal muffler, and get custom piping done, and it works fine. 150 bucks for piping and muffler compared to 350-400 for a good catback. You get about the same gains from either.
go after market unless u can find that one muffler shop that makes those smooth round even flow bends like aftermarket piping is and no weld marks or rusty look. go with aftermarket u can even buy a used one .
I have a rear section exhaust for you. All you need to due is have a muffler shop supply the piping up to the muffler inlet. E mail me: sitinonthejohnny@netscape.net for pics.
