crx y1 tranny help
I'm having a bad problem. First of all I have a y1 non lsd. I have custom made raxles with y1 intermediate shaft. My crx is lowered but not very much below stock ride height. When I corner somewhat hard I get a bad clicking and the car feels like ***. I jacked the car up tonight to inspect the intermediate shaft and axles and they appear in good condition. However my cousin put his foot on the driver side wheel and when it spun the entire motor swayed back and forth maybe an inch with each revoloution. I don't know too much about drivetrain but I'm pretty sure thats not supposed to happen. I'm afraid to drive my car in the twisty's and thats what I live for. PLEASE HELP If anyone has and knowledge to pass on to me whether it be the answer or possiblilities to check it will be greatly appreciated.
If I'm not mistaken...Y1 intermediate shaft works if you have SiR axles too...Arent Raxles have the 90-93 teg specs? If so, then you need the same year intermediate shaft...The one you're using now is a tad longer, reason for the vibration...
maybe this will help....

sounds like your axle may be binding?? that clicking noise usually means that the axle is too short or not installed all the way, and the axle is pulling itself from the trans or intermediate shaft. i dont know though.
are you sure these axles were made exactly for your setup?

yea the guy at raxles made these for the y1 intermediate shaft. Also the guy who installed the axles is awesome. Could the problem maybe be in the diff. in the tranny? As for the clicking it only clicks bad under hard cornering. Man it really makes me feel unsafe. I feel like it wants to pop out. Also I'm running place mounts if that makes a difference.
Well mine just a little bit ago was doing the same thing. But maybe mine was different, mine was when there was torque on the engine or turning it would start clicking. I then looked at my transmission motor mout and saw it was almost broken all the way off.(not the place racing mount my actual car mount that it bolts into) So i had to weld the body mount back together.. Maybe put a jack under your engine and jack it up and see if the motor mounts hold the engine strong or it flexes..I don't know that is just what happened to me. Try it, it couldn't hurt.
Thats my assumption too....motor/tranny sway is always usually caused from bad mounts.....but dont you have new ones???
I suppose not having a front one...(or do you) or maybe a prematurely bad mount was put in wrong...and is already going out.....

are you having the problem with the passenger axle or drivers? once i put my axles in, the pass. locked completely. I have the Y1 setup too. now i need to find an axle to fit the passenger. any suggestions?

we didn't remove the dust shields on mine... I was under the impression with custom made y1 axles you didn't have to. Also on a brighter note it only clicks when i make hard right hand turns. The only that appears to be messed up is the driver side axle... the one with the intermediate shaft. Once again I'm running a y1 shaft with y1 axles made from raxles.
If i had to guess i would say your axels are wrong. If you have a friend with the same setup. measure their axels and half shaft together and then yours. compare the 2. I used a 91 teg half shaft and 91 teg axels from the dealer. But if its clicking would most likely be the axel.
OK a friend of mine helped me work up a theory. Assuming that the reason that the motor rocks when the wheels spins is because the axle is in a bind from being too long. I'm using the y1 intermediate shaft... so instead of trying to deal with raxles and trying to get them shortened I could use the 90-93 integra intermediate shaft to take away the bind being its an inch shorter???? My burning question is are there any differences besides lengths in the 2 intermediate shafts??(especially splines)
