need to know some good basic mods (dumb noob question)
i have a 1992 civic vx. i know its slow and nothing special, its just that the car is in immaculate condition in and out and it only has about 60,000 miles on it and was only 4k. i would just like to know some basic upgrades to make it faster, and im not goin to be draggin the car.
sorry to tell you the bad news but if your sticking with that engine and doing basic mods, it wont be fast. You could improve it just a little. If you choose to buy an intake, get a Cold-airintake, not a short ram. And a full exasut system, not a universal muffler, but you wont be much faster.
Try http://www.nippon-motors.com or http://www.osakajdmmotors.com you should find their prices fair
I am in the same situation as u I have a 91 hatch in pristine condition. I don't want to swap engine's since it's a daily driver and the d15 in there never saw over 3K RPM's until I bought the car a year ago from my mom!
I have a Thermal Cat-Back exhaust - $460+
I'm getting a DC Sports 4-2-1 header - $400+ (Stainless Steel)
You could also get an intake. I/H/E will make your car more fun but you'll still lose a race to gramps in the buick who doesn't even know he's racing

http://www.hmotorsonline.com ... osaka and nippon are also good from what i've heard... i'd quit throwing down money on basic mods like headers, intake, etc and save that money for a swap... if you spent $460 on exhaust and $400 on headers, thats just a few hundred short of buying a b16a swap... plus, if you do a b16a or b16a2, you will have more options to make it faster if you choose to... thats my .02
um just shoot a 50 shot, its the only way that vx motor will feel quick at all or get a sohc vtec, my friend just swaped one in his 94 hb for less than 800, its the way to go!

For SeaBass; the best thing you can do to your DX without a swap is to put an MPFI intake manifold on it. The header and exhaust you put on, and also the intake you plan on putting on won't do squat through the tiny, restrictive throtle body that your DPFI has. the larger MPFI throtle body will make all of your other mods come alive!!
For Shu92; you already have MPFI on your EG. (by the way, your civic belongs in the EG forum, not the EF. That's ok though, we can still help) The ever popular B16 swap will make you faster, but costs $$$$. One way to get a little more pep out of the car on a modest budget is to swap a 92-95 Si head on your engine (D16Z6), or even swap the entire engine in. After that, basic I/H/E and cam will make a nice, peppy car. These engines getting very plentiful from everyone else doing the b-series swaps, and it will drop right in. You will be limited a little more than you would with the b-series, but you said yourself you didn't plan on racing. If you do want to swap, I sugest reading this first:

For both of you; There's plenty of info on this board about the swaps I discussed, a search should give you plenty of info on "how to" especially if you change the "data set" from 'recent topics' to 'archived topics'

I'd say inspect your exhaust after any upgrades, from what I've seen the VX exhaust is horribly small. Everything after the down pipe can stay with the car if you do a swap in the future.
