advice on upgrades for 91ex coupe
i hope this doesn't break guidelines. I'm used to big v8 cars and i love my honda but i'm wanting to get something out of it. It's a 91 accord ex coupe (2dr) with 5sp tranny. It has the f22a6 motor in it. The guy that had it before me put exhaust on it, i don't know what type but it's not stock. I was wanting to get some more out of it but not go too crazy, maybe intake, header, cam gears and stuff. What all do you recommend that wouldn't kill me on cost so far. I was looking at AEM cold intake but i don't want to have to worry about water, so maybe a short intake. And for a header, dc sports header probably. I see some cam gears on here but i'm not sure what those do actually. like i said, i don't know much about these 4 cylinder cars. How much performence would a cam gear give and what all does it do? Are there any other upgrades you guys would recommend that wouldn't require stripping my motor or doing a whole lot of work to it? thanks for all your help.
also, do any of you know where to get hte half red/half clear tail lights for 91 accords. i've been looking all over and can't find anyone that sells them (but i know they have them becuase my friend bought his from ebay).

listen man, all that garbage on your car will get you ~$900 poorer for a gains of at most 8whp. Not worth it. The halfred/halfclear tails are a fine choice, i commend you on your taste in automotive lighting, but with that bolt on crap, your car will be louder, not faster.
If you go with the AEM CAI, it will give you a gain of 10 or 12 HP at the wheels, if your worried about water, get the Bypass valve, it will take about 2-3 HP off of that gain. The cam gear on my 92 DX when dyno tuned got 10-12 HP gain depending on where it was at. Basically what a adjustable cam gear does is let you adjust the valve timing, you can gain HP and fine tune where you want your power band to be. I ended up leaving mine at 2 degrees advanced, which was 10 HP peak gain, but noticably improved the low to mid range, which is probably what you miss about V8s(I know cause I had 2 Mustangs before). A header on your EX won't gain much, maybe a coupe HP because you already have a 4-2-1 manifold. The AEM underdrive pulleys give you 3-5 HP at the wheels, not much, but it's real HP and it's noticable(took about 2 hours to install). Tighten the throttle cable for free, advance your timing as much as you can without it pinging(I found on mine about 2 advanced over spec seems like the sweet spot. Once you have all these mods an adjustable fuel pressure regulator will help get more HP out of it by bumping up the fuel pressure(I heard up to 10 HP but it really depends on the motor and mods). Bypasssing the coolant to the throttle body will help as well. A good cat back system (you said exhaust, but I don't know if you meant muffler or cat back you had). Once you have all that, an S-AFC will let you squeeze out a little more power. If you want to just go bolt ons on your stock motor and do all these things, I think you'll be surprised what the thing will do. Any questions just ask.
accord, what do you have on your car then if you do'nt put upgrades on it? i have the exhaust already and the car isn't loud, and from waht i know with working on my old cars adding a header doesn't make it that much louder (if any).
sp, thanks for all the advice and if you could e-mail me or get ahold of me on instant messenger CYRIXvsP2. I need more detailed help with how to do these things and where to get the best prices on this stuff.
and i was incorrect, i ment to say f22a4, not a6.
