i dont think its worth it i would say 5 lbs at the most you can take out tons of stuff that weighs more than that plus it is there for sound protection without it all you would hear is shale hitting and pinging all over the place its not worth it to me anyways i think it would look cool in the trunk anyways but my car is black to it dosnt look too bad

I removed all the tar in mine and it really surprised me how much is wieghed. I was able to fill a grocery bag with the stuff. I weighed about 10 pounds, maybe a bit more.

IMO its only worth doing on a race car. I did it on mine so the roll cage could be cleanly welded to the floor pan.

On a street car, it will increase noise in the car and you will not feel a damn thing by lightning the car 10 lbs.

a lot of local guys that are swapped, and all-motor have stripped out their interiors of everything except the dash, and front seats (including tar). The interior looks good with just paint everywhere. Nice and shiny.

i did it to mine because if u take that all out and have the tar it looks shitty...if ur gonna do it...do it for a reason besides lighting your car cuz u wont notice a difference...like i said i did it cuz it looks stupid with tar...the paint looks better

I too filled a bag when I did this, and with the thick rubber stuff behind the dash I had just over 13lbs. I did mine since I had to remove a bunch for the cage plates anyway. If it was a street car I would never bother.

yea or you can think this way--->1 seat~25lbs + ~15lbs of tar= 40lbs of freed weight

Ryan<---wannabe racer who spent two 100degree weekends chipping out the tar

I bagged all mine, then weighed it. There's like 10 people saying it weighs about 15 lbs! How could we all be wrong and only you right?

My weight included the black rubber stuff behind the dash (which I stated in my post) so the tar was substantially less. Also, different years and trim levels had different amounts of tar in them. That would be my guess.

And the Si has the most

88 std tar under seats, front and rear, spare tire area, on top of wheel wells.

***** 1/8in thick, feather light stuff.

front carpet weighs 8lbs. no way does the tar weigh anything near that or more

Or you could put tar everywhere else so it has a consistant look. It will still be quiet but won't add much weight (back to around what it was with carpet).

STDs have significantly less tar than DXs.

When I removed all mine, it weighed in at ~13lbs...enough so that the handle on the plastic grocery bag I put it all in ripped off when I went to pick it up. And I qould estimate $15lbs, because I just picked up the big chunks to put in the bag. The rest, I vaccuumed up. It weighed quite a bit more than the front carpet.

Worth it? I'd say it is. It was really quick, really easy, and makes a gutted interior look much better. If you have a really loud exhaust system, you may want to keep the stuff on though.

Yes, but it would be kinda pointless to only pull the tar off the bottom of the car and not the black stuff on the firewall right? Heheheh...

Oh and if anyone's curious, I can vouch that even amongst different Si model years (namely 88 and 89) there were different amounts of tar in the car - my brother's old 89 had more than my 88.

Not worth the trouble, just get the rubber out from behind the dash and yeah, if you're crazy enough (llike me) go get a DX/HF roof in your car.. saves you 30lbs
