Default 2000 SH vs. 2002 WRX

my friend has a 2002 sedona red WRX. when i bought my prelude a couple of weeks ago we raced. we are both quite experienced drivers. off the line he pulled away from me due to the all wheel drive. once the VTEC kicked in i cought up to him and stayed at his rear quarter pannel.
now for a stock prelude that isnt too bad at all. does anyone else have any WRX race experiences? possibly some tips for more off the line torque. i need to beat him. he will be adding more things at the same times that i will be, so i need to get the edge on him. i have in mind
AEM CAI
DC sports Headers
APEXi N1 exhaust
UR pulley's for starters.

hrm he might not be as such an "experienced" driver as you say. maybe the WRX was auto? i dunno not too far-fetched though. good job.

those mods are a good start i guess.

race from a roll....that is your only chance, try highspeed as well, on the freeway.

if anyone has a better suggestion on knows where i can find some more dyno charts than from the ntpog i would greatly appreciate it. i want to find the best exhaust for this car. i am in a whole new world with this prelude. i am used to civics and corvettes.

www.preludeonline.com
It costs like $6 to join, and currently it kinda sucks, but there is a huge amount of prelude information - you just need to search for it.

Those mods would be very good, although I'm iffy on the DC header. The UR pulleys are "debatable" in how they may affect the life of your engine but they DO make considerable improvements in acceleration.

Imstead of getting the header, I'd get a vafc, I liked what it did on my car. Here is my dyno chart from when it was tuned. Note my prelude was bone stock at the time. I now have an Apexi N1 but did not dyno it yet.

Also remember that as he starts to mod his car it'll be harder and harder to beat him since you get more power mod for mod and dollar for dollar from the wrx.

All a WRX needs is like $1000-$2000 in mods and it'll be in the low 13s high 12's. You'd better pray your friend doens't install those mods. He'd probably have the advantage even with just an exhaust and a MBC.

Well if the WRX does the same mods. that you are doing , he going to probably gain more power than you. Unless you get a big mod., I think instead of the headers and pullies which both of them together would only give you about 10 -15 hp the most. You should use the money on a nitrous kit 50 shot for starts and move bigger shot from there and you will hold him for sometime.

I've raced a white modded one at the drag strip near here. He had a termal exhaust and some things under the hood (forget what now). He was running in the low 14's and i was almost dead even at the 15.3 mark (this track as I've been told by many people is about .5 seconds slow since it's sloped 2 degrees up the whole track.. if i went to maple grove or something I'd be running 14.8's) in my 97 base w/intake and N1 catback and *slight* weight reduction (2860 lbs). So pretty much he was blowing me away, and most of it was with his 1.1 second 0-60 marks to my 2.3 second marks. Your options are either turbo your car and get slicks (put my brother in at 13.8 at the same track, so that's 13.3 at most others) or race him from a rolling start to a higher speed. WRX's are great off the line, that's where their advantage is, after that, the all wheel drive and the engines power curve actually kill the performance. Or if you really want to show him up.. get a turbo setup w/intercooler, and spray a NX intercooler fogger kit and run good times (we've also put a ACT 6 puck unsprung, lightened flywheel, pullies, and a custom rollhard exhaust).. we've currently got my brother's down to 12.98 on the first and only run before the end of the season with those final mods.. which if the .5 second is true, would put us at or near 12.48.. not bad for only 1 run and not being able to make adjustments!
