Default Stock exhaust system with new header

I'm planning on getting a DC Sports 4-2-1 header for my ITR. My exhaust system is stock. Is there any point buying a header without upgrading the exhaust system?

Anytime you can improve the flow of air in and out, you will generate more power. The best case would be to also upgrade your intake, as well as cat/cat back as well.
But like most, I had to upgarde mine one part at a time

Most people here go with the JDM OEM 4-1, or DC Sports JDM 4-1 header. THere is a ton of stuff on H-T about both. I'd try doing a search under both names, and then buy what you want. It is your car

the US sized collector will still be a restriction.

I thought the stock intake on ITR performs very well, and there's no point upgrading it unless your doing some serious modifications to your engine!?

So what your saying is that a header alone wont't give very much unless you at least put on cat back?

a good header will produce nice gains , even with stock exhaust.

I've thought about the DC Sports JDM 4-1 header, but their website say that "is not intended for pollution controlled motor vehicles". I figured that it would'nt perfom very well with the stock exhaust system. And doesn't it use a 2.5" collector? Stock is 2.25" right?

I highly doubt it will fail emissions , it just isnt carb. legal

you would need to change out the cat and remove the B-pipe bottleneck.

at the very least, go with a dc jdm header or honda oem jdm header, and get a cat that will accomodate the larger header, because stock cat isnt going to fit and is restrictive anyways. Stock exaust will work...but for maximum gains, you will need to upgrade later on

So if I get the DC 4-1 JDM header combined with a Car Sound High-Flow Catalytic Converter (2,5" collector):
http://www.ipsracing.com/engine/exha...sound_cat.html

Everything should fit neatly together with the stock exhaust?
dc header->race cat->stock exhaust

Stock header collector is 2" OD, not 2.25"!!!!

The catback is 2.25" OD with some bottlenecks...

The difference between JDM header + stock exhaust and JDM header + full 2.5" exhaust is about 3 HP...

If you are going to use the stock exhaust, don't forget to remove the first bottleneck (right after the cat).

Yup... fits just fine... as long as the cat is made for your application.

ok.. any USDM header (1.75" collector) is NOT worth it.

go for anything that has 2.5" (anything, your choice)

Ok so I dont need an adapter of some sort to make the carsound cat. fit to the stock exhaust? Like in this thread I just found:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=204632

The inlet of the cat is 2.5" so it fits to the header, but is the outlet also 2.5"? In that case I'll need some sort of adapter cause stock exhaust is 2.25" after cat... Does anyone know where to get one of those?

The 3 bolt flange is the same size... the pipe diameters are different.

SMSP has them... or if you trust your muffler shop they may be able to make one.

Yeah, JDM header with stock exhaust is a fine set-up.....It helps to have an exhaust but the header is where you will see big gains.

IMHO, I'm using a USDM Mugen 4-1 and it works just fine with stock cams. I believe if you have aftermarket cams that will let your engine breathe more then the 2.5" collector should be considered. I wasn't going that route, so the USDM header works fine for my application in autox.
