B16a in 90 HF/Idle Surges from 1k-3k, Please help!!!
Hello Honda Gurus, I have an 90 HF and I've been having problems for about a year. I have had three shops look at it and no fix yet! I really need help. My car surges from 1,000rpms to 3,000rpms, when idling. The only time it stops is when I push the gas. I've bled the coolant, put on aftermarket throttle body w/ new TPS. I have also had the vacuum lines replaced and it still does it. As a last resort I took it to a honda dealer, the only thing they told me was that it was coding a 3 and 5 for the map sensor. So I replaced that too, Still nothing. I see that someelse on this site has the same problem. If any body can help, lets talk business. Thanks
my b16 did that because my idle air control valve (under the t-body) was screwed up.
there is a little brass plate covering the sensor (two 8mm bolts, i think). Take off the cover and then screw the white thing back in. Hope this helps

Would there be any problem to just block it off, other than warm up time? I was looking at that this weekend, coolant did a number inside it. So you just screwed the valve back in and it worked? Did you ever replace it? Any idea how much this cost? I took it off to isolate the problem, but my battery was gone. THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY AND THE ONLY SOLID LEAD THAT I'VE RECIEVED. I'LL WORK ON IT THIS WEEKEND AND LET YOU KNOW SOMETHING. THANKS
Yeah the shop that had it put a new ECU in.....same thing I was thinking that too. But they tried it. thanks for your reply!!

what about the air to fuel screw. it's on the TB and maybe you need to play with that. it might be getting to much air or not enough...
Good luck.
Good luck.
Hell ya!! Thanks for all the info guys. I'll try everything this weekend and report back, it sounds like my idling problems are over. Also I'd like to thank honda-tech for the resources to make this possible. Thanks again everyone for your tips.
so, what did you do? i'm having the same problem. i upgraded my braking system with a 92 Teg, i changed the MC, booster, rear suspension, ect..
what about ignition timing using the jumper set to 16+/- tdc. bleed the coolant and rev the motor to the cooling fan comes on. The b16a cools around 170, never hits normal temp around 185 for the fan to come on. Also check your t-stat, check if you have heat also, very hot heat.
