Starting problems with an HF
Ok, I am a little lazy right now, and I was hoping this was going to be a regular thing with these HFs or cx's or whatever they are. I just cleaned the cap and rotor, threw some new NGKs in it, and the thing runs really nice. Its only got 35,000miles, those are original miles and is a 1990 civic.
What happens, is it takes a little bit longer than it should to start, turns over fine, but takes an extra second or so. Well, Today, we shut off the car went into a store, came back out 5minutes later, and it cranked but would not start first try, second try it fired and stumbled for a second than caught and ran fine. Same thing happened once more, I got home, shut it off, and started it again with that problem. It is intermittent however, but always takes a little longer than it should to start.
I have an idea of what it could be, but I want to see everyones opinions first. This is my fiance's car, and she is gonna kick my *** if I don't fix it today.

Another place to look would be the ECT sensor. When it starts to fail, it will send bogus signals to the ECU. Causing it to flood the engine on warm/hot starts. Might try un-plugging it the next time you try a hot start. If it starts up OK, that could be a sign it's failing and needs replaced.
Yeah, ok, you guys are on the same page I am than. On my old si, I had... now this may be the same thing your talking about with the main relay, but I had the fuel cutoff switch go... I think, but that was years ago now and I can't remember if it was the same problem. Tell me about this main relay.
BTW: 88_SC_CRX_SI the motor is not flooding (thanks for the idea though). I think the engine is not getting enough fuel on start up.
cool, my link for the online crx manual doesn't work anymore.. and I lent my haynes to my fiances bro. You know where to find a wiring diagram online?
I think, we are talking about the same thing, is it behind the dash and a bitch to get to? Cause thats the thing I'm talking about. Thanks man.

I had a pleasant experience with the main relay/fuel pump just a few days ago.
When you have the key in the ignition in 'on' position you should hear the fuel pump start up while the check engine light is on for a couple seconds. You can also hold the main relay in your hand while turning the ignition to on and you will feel/hear it click to engage. Here is a more methodical way to inspect it:
