retarding timing - what happens if you go past tdc?
i'm retarding my timing to help with emissions, but i don't have a timing light. what happens if you accidently retard it past tdc? can you even retard it that far? right now i've got it to where i need to adjust the idle up to about 2000 rpm to keep it engine from stopping.

The burning A/F charge will not develop peak pressure before the piston begins to move down. Therefore the flame front will "chase" the piston down the bore. You will lose lots of power, and will be humorous to watch. Don't do it.
