Where is the Oil Filter on 97 Prelude
About to do an oil change for my friend. I've only done BMWs and Integras. I just want to know the location before hand so I don't waste time looking for it.
Thanks

I think it's at the back of the engine and you have to get to it from under the car - I can't see it from the front or sides, so I'm pretty sure it's at the back. One thing I remember reading was that you should cover a pipe below the filter before you remove it because if you spill some oil on the pipe, you will smell the oil burning for a while before it goes away.

it's right above the downpipe. Pain in the butt to get to (well kinda).. you have to jack the car up and do it (obviously!) An oil filter wrench (strap wrench) comes in very handy for this job
the oil filter for my car is behind the engine... if you look below the intake manifold you'll prob see it.. iuno if the base models you have to go under the car or not but for my SH you can go on top

I have tried using both a strap wrench and a normal filter wrench, and I can't get either to work for crap, there is almost no clearance for me to get at it, so I usualy wait till it cools and use my hands. (ouch)
if you can't get it with an oil filter wrench i wouldn't suggest doing it by hand either... just take it up to a shop and get it done.. it's ony like 10 bucks
I'm not sure what the pipe is called. All I know is that the filter is above this pipe (someone else called it a down pipe in a reply in this post) and that you should be careful not to spill any oil on it otherwise you're going to smell it and see some smoke coming from the engine for a while (a day to two).
Doesn't Honda have a special oil filter wrench for easily removing the oil filter? I thought I saw it at handa-accessories.com. Something like $10 or something like that.
just take it up to a shop and get it donecks
I always take filters off by hand. If worse comes to worse, jab a screwdriver through it and loosen it that way. Then don't screw it down so damn tight next time.

that looks easy to get a grip on. I was thinking of switching to fram since they're a bit taller. up until now I used Honda filters but this time I got a NAPA. BTW, is the NAPA filter any good?

Yeah, base model you get at from underneath, SH model you get at from the top. Neither position is terribly convenient.
I use STP filters. Exact same internal construction as the expensive Mobil1 filters. The USDM Honda filters actually aren't all that great. Check out the review over on ntpog.org.
