Help me spend 500 bucks on my CRX!
Alright, here's the scoop. I have a 91 CRX Si with about 131k miles on it, and it's burning oil pretty bad (almost 3 quarts an oil change). I've been saving my pennies and dimes for a while, and I have about 500 bucks.
Here's what I have:
high-flow muffler (NOT cat-back, just an OE replacement)
Corbeau Forzas
autopower rollbar
EDIT: homemade rear strut bar
Now, I'm toying with a few different ways to spend my $$. The emphasis is on FUN. I want the mods the have the most "fun factor," but I'm open to anything.
A few idea's I've had:
- rebuild the A6 bottom end (maybe with up compression pistons...A1?), slap a VTEC head on there, run a VAFC or maybe OBD-1 conversion if it's not too much of a pain.
- drop + shocks. Probably HK and tokikos. And a bottom end rebuild.
- i/h/e. Doesn't solve my oil burning problem. Boo...
What do you guys think? The car is pretty much a street car, and I value it's straight line performence more than it's turning abilities.
PS. Is it hard to rebuild the bottom end by myself? Do I have to break in the motor again?

yeah you'll have to break in your motor if you rebuild it...its just my opinion but hauling *** through turns is alot more fun than going in a straight line...whatever floats your boat
I would just go ahead and buy a low mileage d16z6, you should be able to find some at that price.

Yea, i agree with buying a Z6 or even a Y8... You can get them for under $500, and if you have an extra person for a helping hand, dropping it in your car wont be too hard. If you get a Z6 or a Y8, more than likely its gunna be good milage so itll last longer, plus nowadays companies are starting to come out with more SOHC V-Tec parts (I.E. Skunk 2's coming out with stage 1 2 and 3 cams, and an intake manifold, they already got their valvetrain out, etc.) 125 stock hp compared to 108 stock hp actually does make a difference, especially in a CRX. Plus youll feel it more since it wont be as old as your 130K mile A6
So Z6 or Y8 is a good way to spend your $500, Just my opinion
