8-SPD CVT!!!

That is pretty sweet...hopefully they make as many positive changes in the way the car looks (to move away from the hideus *** resemblance it currently maintains) as they have in the drivetrain modifications.

not necessarily . i know the porsche cvt they have out there is pretty damned fast
either way, 8 gears would be great for any car, granted its a very close ratio box
now if its anything like the 6 speed crap they have out there in the RSX type S for instance....never mind

I don’t know, I think that many gears is a cover-up for a really horrible power band, you know, like an F1 car. If our ITRs (which can qualify as a bad case power band) can get away with 5 gears why will you need 8 with such a beautiful engine? (NASCARs only have 4.) The beauty of a CVT is that you have an infinite selection and left to the computer it’ll do a great job. But as a driver (and I LOVE my gears) I really don’t want to have to shift through EIGHT gears just to get to cruise. And then if you want to pass should I downshift 4 gears or 5? Hmmm..the road is icy maybe I should downshift 3 gears…oh..oh..not enough power…hmm..4 gear downshift it is. (rolls eyes)
porsche does NOT make a CVT (which is a "continuously variable transmission"). the first car to have one was the mid 1980's subaru Justy. others are trying to jump on the cvt bandwagon, but they are VERY torque limited.

Porsche doesn't have any CVT's in service for sale.
That RSX-S 6-speed was pretty nice when I drove one.
I thought a CVT does not have gears - I thought it was like on a moped where you have a large chain deal that flexes or whatever you want to call it - like audi's one on the new A4? Either way all that crap is pretty useless (especialy on that box) - and an 8 speed tranny is over-kill! 6 speeds is plenty. What are you going to do with 8 gears on a family sedan? Gimme a good 'ol 6 speed with A CLUTCH PEDAL!
