Loud Valve tapping!!!
Adjusted the valves on my car today as the valves were tapping like hell. Went .008 intake side and .009 on the exhaust side and now they are louder than before I can hear every single tappet! I am thinking then I going tighter on the clearances like .006 intake and .008 exhaust. Thoughts, it is quite loud. Anyother thoughts?
Do .007 intake and .008 exhaust. And make sure the rocker arm bolts are torqued down because when one comes loose it makes a ton of noise. When you are done, take a flathead screwdriver and place the tip on the valvecover and put your ear to the handle. Go from place to place over your valves and you will be able to see which ones have problems, if any. Just remember, humming is normal, but a tapping or knocking noise isn't. Hope this helps and good luck.
Valve specs for a B18C1 are .006-.007 Intake and .007-.008 Exhaust. If you have a B18C1, you are off. Prolly the reason for the tapping.
