Default Weight and acceleration

Neat little test I did on my car. Got some accelerational data myself then had my 200lb friend sit in the passenger seat. Test done on the same road facing the same direction just an hour or so apart.

I guess chalk one up for weight reduction ******

Sounds about right. I remember having 3 friends of mine in my gsr at the same time and it felt like I was towing a house.

Oh yeah and the reason the graphs start at 16mph was because of wheelspin. I started recording data after I started to move which was when I dumped the clutch.

Hehe, I feel for the 200 LB test rat

Good stuff.

On a race track (road) a 1 MPH difference in corner exit speed can make for a lot of distance at the end of a straight....

That's nearly a 10 mph difference after 14 or so seconds!

Which datagathering system were you using?
Steve keeps telling me that a little extra weight won't be a problem.

Nice, according to the graph, your 0-60 time is a little under 5s without the fatty!

My data gathering "system" consisted of a digital rev/speed meter and mounted digital camera able to take 15 second movies. A little ghetto yes but hey whatever works.

My 0-60 probably isn't completely as fast as it's showing. I'm using 205/50-15 tires which may show my speeds to be a few tenths faster.

YOu should extrapolate to zero by taking the tangent of the two curves at 0s and then using the average of them for the origin.

That is true. After i got signed off at an HPDE my car felt much faster and i noticed right away my shift points were much different meaning that i would shift at a closer distance out of the corner and not have to wait so long with the added weight. 200 lbs is a lot!

Ooh burned haha.

For extrapolating the tangent and stuff I really have no idea what that means, sorry. I'm sure in high school I would have understood that but whatever with that now.

Good stuff, his 0-60 isnt sub 6 seconds, if you notice he starts off at 16mph per hour. I thought the same thing until i read a previous post where he stated he left at 16mph

good info

The difficult thing is measuring actual ground speed versus wheel speed when launching. My speed meter showed 16mph immediately when the tires broke loose however I had just started to move and was not actually travelling at 16mph at that point.

Whatever my 0-60 time was, I'm not all that concerned with it but at least you can compare the differences in 0-60 times with and without 200 extra pounds, that's what my main reason for doing this was.

That's true although you really don't need a graph to confirm that. My suggestion was to allow you to use your data for other tests. Good analysis though.
