3rd Gen owners...sign in
I'd like to see who some of the 3rd gen owners are on this board. I always see the 4th and 5th gen people start threads and exchanging information. But where are the 3rd Genners at?

What's everyones goals/future plans for your car?
I'm also burning oil like crazy. This summer I'm getting a set of 17" Motegi MR7s or 16" Rota Subzeros. Either will be in gunmetal. I'm also getting a cusco front strut bar, Goodridge braided brake lines, and a camber kit. I want to run a few autocross events and get my feet wet with that. I need to do new floor mats and pedals in my interior. I may end up getting some upholstery work done in gunmetal color for the carpeted portions of the door panels, and if I have the extra money to throw around I'll do AEM cam gears.Once I graduate I'm getting a BRAND NEW Honda rear driver's side fender and I'm swapping to a JDM B20a most likely. I don't plan to do that much to the engine because I know how crappy they respond to mods.
Probably get a header, cam gears, and maybe mess with some headwork and throttle body overbore, etc. If I see the point in it I might do a nitrious system on it someday, but that will be more for show then anything. I just want a stylish, well handling, respectably fast car.
Chris Brinson and most of the other people who have installed one to their car have come to the conclusion that even at 6-8 psi the engine simply can't handle it. I think almost everyone has blown piston rings with their turbos. I don't know if someone else's kit would be any better, but I imagine I'd pretty much have to hand the car over to them and have them mess with it for along time to develop a proper kit.
If I'm really serious about the car later on I have thought about swapping for an H23a instead of the JDM B20a. That way I would have a strong motor that's been known to handle turbos well and it would be cheaper then doing an H22a.

in regards to the turbo from ludespeed, i think anyone who puts a stage 3 or 4 turbo on a stock motor without doing some internals first deserves to fry their motor. a properly built motor can handle the turbo. if you guys rebuild the motor and put some custom parts into it to strengthen it up, you will easily be able to handle that turbo.
90 si ALB with jdm B20A. block is currently at GE getting fully prepped for boosting. red 5 speed, lots of work in progress, cus its a honda

88 Honda Prelude, with mods focused for the STS class. aka, suspension work with the obligatory riceboy mods like catback exhaust and ghetto-fab intake
Yes, its right-hand drive

Chris, this question is not intended to 'poke fun' of you, but is a serious question I have. Is your dissatisfaction in the LudeSPEED kit due to the engine fire, or are there more reasons to your opinion?
my plans for the immdeiate future are just suspension and brake mods. i don't want a super fast car, just a quick one. my ultimate goal is to only have about 150hp at the wheels and be able to hold my own at the track
your car caught fire? ha! that's great. i don't know a whole lot about turbos, but i do know that there are different levels of turbos. a stage three turbo, which is what you probably had with the ludespeed one, is not as powerful as the stage 4 turbo. why do you think there is a drag II kit and a drag III kit, and so on. they are different levels of turbo. now, just because your car caught on fire, which i am sure it had absolutely nothing to do with a turbo kit, unless of course you hooked it up wrong, oh well, doesn't mean the turbo kit is crap.
basically, what i was pointing out was that anyone who thinks they can just add 100hp to the wheels to a stock motor and not expect the car to blow up may want to stay out of the car business. you need to build up the motor a little bit. give it stronger internals before shooting that much power into the motor. it's comon sense to most people who know even a little bit about cars. which, apparently you don't.
on another note, if you are so great with turbos or think that tom's kit is so bad, why don't you make a turbo kit for the third gen prelude that won't cause the car to burn up, and then we will see who has done the better job. as far as the terminology goes with stage 3 and 4, that is what is posted on the website. i have heard those terms before regarding turbo's. usually the stage is shown something like T3 or T4. again, i am not an expert on turbo's but come on. there are different stages for everything.
oh, and what the hell is an "*** clown?" there's some real good terminology there. so your 30, and what, going on 12? how long did it take you to come up with that one? or perhaps that is what your nickname is at the gay bar?

"i don't know a whole lot about turbos,"
After making that comment about yourself, I would've suggested stopping; because you really made yourself look bad there...
For what its worth, a "so-called Level 3 and Level 4" is just a marketing technique to make it sound better then the crappier kit they have before it. Its nothing special. Think trim level for a car. Prelude S, Prelude Si, Prelude Si 4WS, Prelude SI VTEC. Because Tom never designated a so-called "level" for his kit, its not actually a so-called "level 3" turbo kit. Those so-called "Levels" also vary from company to company; it's not a universal standard.
