Default Coolent temp gauge weak?

WTF, I brought my car home last night, drove 30 miles on highway, and the temp gauge only when up 1/10 of the level. Either I'm used to high heat engines, or something is up. If the thermo is not working or switch, it wouldn't produce any reading, correct? It was 50 degree F last night in Seattle, so it isn't extremly cold. Now today city driving, it barely went up at all. Should I even be concerned. Thanks.

I think you should invest in a nice aftermarket temp gauge. My nice Autometer Water Temp gauge gives exact readings on the radiator.
