Default starting problem

since about a week ago, my car's be having trouble starting. the first time it happened, it was raining, and the car just wouldn't start. it would try real hard....but just couldn't start. so due to the weather, i let it be till the next day. same problem...wouldn't start. now my car is a 94 with approx. 142K. i let it be for about 3-4 days. then i turned the key and it started. while i was driving it sounded fine. after that, i turned it off and turned the key again,,,,,didn't start. so my first idea was the distributor. i had it checked out at my shop and they agreed.

1. anyone have a used distributor for a 94 accord?
2. do you think this is something i should do on my own? or have my shop do it?
3. what else do i need to get? distributor, cap, coils...anything else?

thanks

I would agree about the ignition swith also, because I have heard about a similar problem and it did turn out to be the ignition switch.

But, if it is indeed the dist. then you can do it by yourself, but you would have to know how to time your car. It can be a bit complicated at first. You'll have to purchase a timeing light, and depending on which one you choose they can get pretty expensive. Go to your shop and ask them how much they would charge to do this for you. And ask if you can stay and learn...that's how I learn most of the things I know.

hope this helps, and good luck with whatever comes your way.

i'm not trying to sound sarcastic or anything but why would you suspect the ignition switch?

Ok, first things first. You say that it wouldn't start. Would the engine turn over ok? I wouldn't just put a distributor in it without verifing that that is the problem. You can spend a lot of money throwing parts at it to try to fix it. Good luck.
