What?

Anyway, there is a whole post that is just for SOHC owners. Search for posts created by Spade and you'll find it. As for the cam gear, you dont HAVE to get one but you will get much more power with a cam/cam gear combo then just the cam.

Fisrt of all do a search.....one of the largest threads in the civic forum is on the modification alternatives for a d-series motor.

THere are alot of cams that you can get that you wont need valve springs/retianers/etc. Just look at the power range associated with a partictular cam. Some cams make more horsepower/torque in the lower band(4500-7500) whereas you wont need anything else but the cam itself. Other more aggressive cams make power in the 5500-8500 range where you might want to upgrade. I would recommend getting the adjustable cam gear with either purchase, for tuning options. Alot of "proclaimed" horsepower increases can only be achieved with some type of tuning.

I would also recommend some type of fuel regulation even if it is the B&M kit for thirty bucks that modifies your stock regulator. This is for the physics of it, you will be introducing more air and spark at a different time than mapped, so you will be needing a little more pressure at those injectors.

I hear that te ZEX cams are really good for N/A applications. Just remember that those performance cams will not help you in any forced induction applications, and also do not attempt to spray nitrous or go turbo with a "chipped" ECU. I am assuming that you are getting a performance chip that is geared to a basically stock engine that is naturally aspirated.

Hope this helps, if you neeed more information-do a search.
If nothing there here is a link to a message board setup for strictly the d-series honda engines. http://pub143.ezboard.com/bhondadseries
