SSR Competitions/Nitto555R's
if you have to get nitto's, i'd rather get something else, with the offset of the ssr's i highly suggest 205/45/17. i'd go with parada spec II, very affordable and great tire
..you haven't got a fair amount of cash, you may want to try yokohama AVSi's, which, I might add, are currently being 'blown out' at tirerack.com. Check, here.
You could also try the Falken azenis which comes in a 225 45 17.

..simply b/c no offsets werel listed that a 225 may be a viable option, I'm not intimatly aware of all the ssr offsets, my apologies; however, using my 17*7 volk gtn's w/ a +44mm offset as a baseline, when I did the math, 215 s02pp v. 225 falken azenis, the change in width was marginal; as in, less than 10%.
Sorry, im a bit confused.. i have never bought 17 inch wheels before.. will you try to make your post a little more clear, sorry.. im new to getting new wheels/tires.

****! Which 17 inch wheels will the 555R's wrap around? Hmm... i wonder if Falken Azenis would be almost as good and would wrap around the LE's or SSR's?
Input?
thanks,

Nitto tires are terrible from every account ive heard, why do you think you need them?
There are tires that will hook up better and are DOT approved and very streetable. Falken Azenis are the grippiest in the dry.
By the way there are full race tires that are DOT approved so don't take that alone as a sign that they should be used on the street.

OK, no BS, I want a tire that will hook up on the street, and will be safe-ENOUGH to drive with in the rain. I figured Nitto555R's would be the closest i could get to a slick, excluding the BF Goodridge Drag Radials, which are supposedly no good for daily driving (wear too fast).
So now you know my goals, i want the best drag tire (that allows me to drive in the rain), and will give me a decent wear life. Sounds likke the 555R's to me. I hear a lot about F. Azenis, but I heard from a source that the 555R's outperform the Azenis for straight line racing.

No offense, but you really need two sets of tires in this case. Run a good street tire on your 17" blings, and put the drag radials on the stockers or another set of 15"s. Your ET's will thank you.
And BTW, Tirerack is already out of any 17" AVSi that would fit

You have a source that says nittos are better hooking-up-wise over avenis? a source? what are we, media?
Nittos are just plain bad. Why do you want to launch on 17's, anyways? Who cares about good launch times on HUGE 17's... smaller the better for drag. Splat's right. You need to sets of tires/wheels. 17's were made to turn quickly and give you good 60' times. And do some tire research (SEARCH here, go to tirerack.com, etc) before you assume that Nitto's are the best. More like the worst out there.... You can much better for the money.
Edit: I just thought of this. If you are spending big money on SSR 17x7.5s... why are you skimping on tires, getting the cheapest cost-wise? I find that odd....

Hmm.. Nitto's cheap. I wasn't trying to cut corners with tires, i was just trying to get the best for what i was looking to do.
Okay... forget the 17 inch wheels for a second. For the STOCK 15's, which would be the best tire for dragging... NOT slicks, that I could drive in the rain with without killing myself? The reason I figured the Nitto555R's is because I only know of 2 drag radials
1. Nitto555R's
2. BF Goodridge drag radials
The reason I chose the 555R's is because I want to daily drive the tires on the street, and I hear the BF's are REALLY BAD for DD, but a little better in hooking up. I just want the best for what I am trying to do.

Honestly, your best option, if you choose not to have a set of drag tires/rims and a set of daily driver tires/rims, is to get one of the more popular track/street tires you have read about in this forum. Azenis, AVS, Dunlop Sports... Something with very good traction that will not kill you in the rain.
You have to compromise in this situation unless you can run two sets of tires/rims better suited to your goals.
Best drag tire and safe rain driving do not belong in the same sentence.
