Default ABS Is it really needed?

Hi, just like teh topic states...

I'm asking because i THINK my unit is defective and since i am getting my engine bay repainted i'm thinking of actually removing the whole unit...

Not sure if it actually is but how important or wise is my decision? sorry if this a noob question...

The ITR ABS system is damn near perfect IMHO. You'll wish you had it at some point down the road.

As long as you don't drive in snow or icey conditions, I don't see why not. I don't even like ABS. Seems to me that locking the wheels on dry roads whould stop you quicker.

Incorrect.

In layman's terms, ITR ABS is the fizzle. Don't mess with it.

serenity - You DO have an ITR right? It makes a HUGE difference.

Locking the wheels will not stop you faster and you will not have control of the car.

I guess I haven't had my R long enough to find out. I was just compairing my experience of a non-abs celica vs an abs 4runner. I know they are different as far as stopping distances, regardless of abs or not. It just seemed like if I had ABS in the celica I would have actually hit this car infront of me, but since the wheels locked I didn't hit him.

Don't mind me!! :bow down to the REID:

I don't think it will save all that much weight. If you removed that along with a bunch of other things, yes, but just ABS, I don't think it is worth it. Just fix it other wise.

Not worth it .....

ABS is your last line of safety when you're braking in the extreme situation IMO

ABS is EXCELLENT in the R. Helps you really learn the limits/capabilities of the R's braking system AND it is very very good when needed in icy/rainy conditions.

Don't get rid of it....

So are you guys saying that if it's not an R (so it doesn't have an R's abs), then it is "more okay" to get rid of your abs?

Regular Integra ABS is crap in comparison to ITR ABS.

It's intrusive, a fault I never have found with the ITR ABS.

Hrmm i dont think thats correct, of course if you go into a skid, you will lose control, but locking the brakes up will slow you faster than anti-lock.

Threshold braking is the fastest way of stopping, not locking up the brakes.
