Default BFG Drag Radials.. first time.. advice?

I'm about to run BFG DR's on my 300ZX, my first time on "hybrid" slicks.. I've ran on regular slicks before in a different ride, but never on "street" slicks. Any advice from those of you who have used these tires before? Doesn't matter what the advice is, basically just what to watch out for or tips on using them. Don't want to do anything stupid just because I have no experience with them.

Well dont do what I did and just run them at the track without heat cycling them. I received my slicks through UPS, had them mounted and headed straight to the track w/o heat cycling them. I was getting good 60 fts and they grab very good but now the edges of the tread are peeling instead of wearing out evenly. They still hook up good but i just dont think they'll last as long now.

Beat me to it......

I ran my BFG's on the street for 10 miles @65 mph to "break them in"

Havent noticed any weird wear patterns.

ALthough I think having the tire rack "heat cycle" them would be the best thing....
hind sight is 20/20 though

Edit: I forgot to mention that my best 60's have been NOT using the water box.....dry clutch dump(6-7000 rpm) from the end of the water box to the line....they hook up well enough to where now my clutch is the limiting factor.
2.08 60' so far with the clutch sliping.....I think 1.9's should come.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm put a few miles on them before I light them up.

JSPEC, if you got the opportunity to get 5 BFG DR's brand new for $50, legally, would you pass it up?

Well, that's only half the hook-up. But I'll wait till the other half actually happens before I boast about it... -knock on wood-

I don't think that many people would pass that offer up...becuase I know that I wouldn't, especially considering I need some new drag radials.

they're nice. i loved them. i borrowed my friend's. 205/50 mounted on 95 gsr's. with aem cai, tanabe rm exhaust, stock suspension, full interior, right corner removed i did a best of 14.948 at the last CMI. north vs. south it was. my ride is a 96 gsr by the way. my previous best was 15.249. so that's about .3 seconds off.

When you said right corner removed, do you mean the bumper corner lense on the passenger side? I was thinking about doing it myself next time i goto the track sense i assumed the air would be getting rammed into the Cold Air filter. If that's what you meant does it help at all? maybe .001 even?

yeah i know. because i was running 15.1's and 15.2's all weekend. and was trying to break 14.9. it just came at a bad time. i was disappointed to be eliminated, but hitting 14.9 put a smile back on my face.

I swap mine on at the track.......if you drove on them expect 6000 miles or less of tread life......if you have the $$$ be my guest to roll on them all the time.

I think I would get them for the street for 50.00 for all five lol but I agree you cant cut a 1.6-1.7 60 on drag radials (FWD) soo... yes I think anyone would get them for fooling around on the street but not for the track.. Real slicks are the ticket if you want to be competitive.

i do. my track is a 30 minute drive using the small streets. it's safe as long as there is enough tread left. althought the only reason i didn't wait until track time to put them on was because there was no one to watch my stuff. if there was, i'd probably not ride on them to the track. once i was too lazy to take them off and was doin 75+ in the rain. hydroplaning is not fun! LOL
