JDM honda del sol with B16A engine with Optional LSD? (LSD questions)
Hello guys,so i have own the a JDM Del Sol 1992 with B16A engine Not A2 or A3 or any other A+Number. That is the Version with the optional LSD or that's what i thought for so many years.Car does have an LSD but now i am in the process of rebuilding the Gearbox and a lot of questions came up.So the LSD is believed to be a Viscous one and i really can't find a single identical photo on the internet for it.(Please check photos) So through a lot of searching i remember optional LSD on the Del sol was listed as a Viscous but recently i read that it should be helical like most of the honda LSD.
i also read that Viscus uses a silicon based oil internally and when that loose it's properties your LSD is not working right or working like an open LSD and i also read that this is actually not serviceable and you need to upgrade.
Now to the strange stuff. We found out that the Gearbox casing has some grinding the thing i read you do when you actually want to fit an LSD in a non LSD gearbox or maybe a different LSD than stock? (i see helical LSD have a different shape that probably could fit in my case? Are those marks from factory?or could this actually installed by previous owner?
I also have a very crazy idea regarding my old mechanic which i didn't trust at some point. He removed the engine with gearbox for a complete paint job on my car and engine stayed out of the car for some time.My theory is could this actually had a helical LSD and that mechanic stole it modified the case and fitted a different LSD?
Also gearbox is the first time it opens in my possession.
WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR KNOWLEDGE ON THAT MATTER!
THANK YOU!! is this stock??
Viscous LSD? Viscous LSD?? Gearbox when FIRST opened UP

That looks like the clutch type lsd. Found in jdm trannies. Not fun disengaging on while turning. Will chatter like a ****. Had to run tranny fluid with friction modifier. I always ended up using synchromesh or pennzoil synchromesh. Will need to do your research on which has the modifier in it(it didnt help with the chatter anyway).
Back in 2008 when i did my jdm b16a, first thing i modded was installing a mfactory helical lsd.

At least my experience was, the clutch type lsd in the jdm tranny i had wasnt the best. It was too hard for me to notice if both tires were gripping because of the chatter. Think my tuner told me at the time "be careful on launching with the type of lsd". When disengaging on a straight, i guess it acceled quicker. But that was at stock torque. Would recommend this type of lsd for a high torque application.
actually, that clutch type lsd took a **** when i left the tree at the dragstrip. Full chatter the rest of the way home. It would fully lock up when turning. Not allowing that wheel to spin. Thats when i ordered and swapped in the mfactory helical lsd. Im betting those clutch plates in the oem jdm lsd split and shattered

mine is not chattering at all,to notice you need some torque or high speed cornering so not the best thing to test regularly if it actually works like it should
