Idle/electrical mystery
I drive an 05 DX engine, My car jerks at idle from a cold start, when I'm idle at a red light it will jerk and flash the battery light and the D3 gear will flicker even though I'm in Drive. This is all intermittent and in sync with the jerking. when I'm driving at higher RPMs no issues, also the longer i drive (25min+) the less it happens until it completely goes away. I've been to 4 mechanics and my problem is not solved. i have gotten 4 misfire codes for different cylinders amidst this, all spark plugs have been changed and a few ignition coils but I've noticed after changing 2 of them that the codes go away on their own without changing the coil. the alternator has been replaced with Denso brand, throttle body is clean, battery terminals good, battery good, ground cable, engine ground, starter all check out fine. my most recent attempt was replacing the Crank shaft position sensor, still same issues. my next assumption is to try replacing the IACV........... any other suggestions would be appreciated. it starts fine but the last mechanic says we could try the ignition switch........
You should realize that when you have issues like this, you are no longer working on an automobile - you are working on a computer. That said, based on what you're experiencing, I'd expect the ECM to be the culprit; BUT that is an expensive part, just about impossible to diagnose if the issues are intermittent (as most are), and a roaring BITCH to install due to changing lockout codes. There are places that you can send your ECM to get it reprogrammed, diagnosed, or repaired, and most even offer exchanges, but that is gonna cost you a boatload of money.
My suggestion is to check out the cost of a new or rebuilt ECM, then decide if the inconvenience you are experiencing is worth the money to replace it, and the gamble that this really is the issue. One thing, if it IS a bad ECM it'll probably get worse and may one day leave you stranded. You might also consider what the car is worth; it may make more sense to donate it to a charity and take the tax deduction.
Good luck, you are gonna need it! I recently spent $1800 and four months testing and debugging what turned out to be an ECM issue before I bit the bullet and bought a rebuilt one, which corrected the issue. I'd sent the original to the repair shop; they said it tested just fine, but it was bad anyway. Not a Honda, another brand, but cars these days all share the same crap.
