Insight Swap
Hey yall, I've got a G1 insight and absolutely love it. Currently I have no plans to swap it, but when my hybrid battery eventually dies (hopefully not soon, sure as heck cant afford a swap right now) instead of spending a few G's on a new battery, I think I'm going to swap the motor. I'd want it to be fun and punchy unlike stock, but have some problems. First, while I have a decent amount of mechanical knowledge, when it comes to swaps I don't know the first things like how to adjust the engine to fit the transmission and whatnot. Additionally my fabrication abilities consist of CAD, duct tape and zip ties. I don't know anything about honda engines either (other than mine) so wouldnt have a clue on what to swap in. How do I even know if any given engine would fit and if it'd be a pain to adapt? I'm happy to learn some basic stuff like welding, but I don't have thousands to spend on fancy machining equipment either, and don't even know where to buy metal other than at hardware stores and marketplace, much less what kinds of metals to use.
If anyone can help explain some of this stuff and what I'd have to learn and maybe how that would be much appreciated. I would also love to hear engine recommendations since I don't have a clue.
Thanks!

K series is definitely the most supported swap there is for an insight. I’m building my second d series insight because I think it’s a perfect motor for that chasis. Really just depends on what you want out of the car in the long run.
