D16z6 Into 98 civic questions with few leftover problems
Hey everyone, im new to this forum thing, and new to hondas for the most part. Been a mechanic most of 25 years and worked on everything under the sun. Just never had and did the civic swap thing. Ill try to keep it short, so went through a good running 95 d16z6, new king main and rod bearings, all standard. Everything was snug and good. Pg6 pistons, adjustable y8 cam gear, adjusted for 5 degree difference. Got all the main swap stuff done and figured and going. P28 stock ecu adapted, no check lights or problems, had to shitty injectors. Got some to work for the break in. Plug colors were beautiful gold. Cheap *** Intake, 4-2-1 header and full 2 1/4, or 2 1/2 exhaust. Used the y8 throttle body, all new gaskets seals, arp head studs, for a basically stock honda with a couple things thrown @ it I was thoroughly impressed. Especially torque wise, anyway, typical noisy valve train, reset 3 times. Back and forth noisy though. Odd, vtec didnt seem to kick and it was a little less spunky after 100 miles, changed oil @ 50miles, checked comp and running 215-220 psi across all 4. Plugs still good color, bout 400 miles went to start up a grade and it just had nothing for power, and kept ******* more. Pulled over, seemed a little warm but not hot, nor was the guage, let it sit, struggled to top of grade. Made it home. Sat for night, trippled checked everything and it was all good. Ran fine, only did this after driving a while then trying to push a grade harder. Even with y8 gear adjusted, to get my dizzy timing to the 16 give or take my dizzy is cranked all the way forward. Ran good though, my mechanical is spot on, the electiecial is set to book, maybe an extra degree. Got aluminum under drive crank pulley, lightweight flywheel and stage 2 clutch, cam gear, the only think I didnt replace was the oil pump. Well now got a rod knocking. Started the slow tap, then trying to get home heard it spin and really knock so shut it down. Thinking pump is shitting, or ****, all advise welcome. Gonna start the tear down soon. Need to figure out timing so dizzy is centered. And hoping I dont gotta have my crank turned. But ill do what I gotta. Thanks guys
