Default D16y8 to b16b

I am planning on putting a b16b in my 2000 civic but am just a bit confused on the wiring aspect of it i’ve searched around and cant seem to find the info on it. What parts are plug n play and which do i need to buy? If anyone has info i’d appreciate it!

B16B is OBD1. Chassis is OBD2.

How you decide to do it may depend on emissions compliance in your area.

B16B should be same as swapping an OBD1 B16A.

What the heck do you use to search that you can't ever find anything? I can copy paste your questions directly into google and it comes up with many relevant results. :/

B16b is NOT obd1. It's obd2a.

Should be essentially plug and play with your d16y8 harness. Distributor plug might be different but you can splice it or use a 99-00 civic si unit.

Oops, shoot you are right. I always forget that, since most of the JDM market was obd1 till 2002.

Well... actually you are "technically" wrong.

You were "technically" correct the first time... and then you agreed to be wrong with this ^^^^^^^^^^^^ guy.

The B16B engine is not. Your 1999 Civic chassis IS.

Here is the REAL question: What constitutes the On Board Diagnostic system version ? The answer is the ECU !!! It is the US that mandated specified parameters for OBD versions, and thus, OBD-1, OBD2A, and OBD2B are diagnostic coding systems found on US domestic vehicles from 1992-95, 1996-98, and 1999-Current (Essentially). Some other markets use these diagnostic system guidelines as well... but Japan did not adopt the OBD-2 platform until after 2001. Thus, even though a JDM ECU may plug into a '96+ USDM chassis, it will not communicate to the SRS diagnostic port and it does not recognize OBD-2 style coding.

Now, the engine wiring harnesses, along with the engine components that said harness plugs into, will be similar to those found here in the US for same year models from 1992-00. Many people confuse the designation of these parts based on the OBD diagnostic system, but the reality is that they SHOULD be identified by the MODEL YEAR of the vehicle in which they were originally installed. For example: 1992-95 Civic fuel injectors and 1996-00 EX/Si fuel injectors function exactly the same... the difference is the plug style. Also, 1992-95 B16A distributors and 1996-00 B16A distributors internally function exactly the same... the only difference is the plug style ('92-95 has two plugs, '96-00 has one large plug). USDM OBD-2A/B engines also have an additional sensor at the crankshaft called the Crank Fluctuation Sensor (CKF)... JDM "B" series engines do NOT have this sensor. Since an OBD-2 ECU requires this sensor to run... the JDM engine would NOT be considered an OBD-2 engine. It just happens to have the same fuel injector and distributor plug styles found on a USDM '96-00 B16A engine.
