I have rust forming on my rotors where the rims attach. Any tips on how I prepare the surface to minimize the rust? See picture. The vehicle is 2 days old purchased 22 October 2025 from a dealership. Noticed the rust as I was switching tires yesterday for the winter season ahead. 3 of the 4 rotors have about the same amount of rust.
As context I am in Alberta 2026 CRV - front wheel rotor. Rust after 2 days of new purchase.
Alberta, Canada so usually a fairly dry climate compared to other parts of the country.
So, that is where the wheel mounts, as you likely know.
There is generally rust there no matter what.
If you want, you could put some silicone brake pad grease there.
That would help repel water.
But do note that the more grease you put on something, the more dirt it attracts, and the increased possibility that you fling grease around your brake rotor.
Maybe you could put grease inside of the rust lines, but you should likely prep the surface by removing the rust.
Since you typically have to replace rotors anyways, I would consider ignoring this surface rust.
It's not a big deal usually.
