what is the cause of a clicking fuel pump? The car is a 1980 hatch. Has the weber swap done for the carburetor. This was done when i got the car. I got the car about 11 months ago. weekend driver type of thing. ran fine, no known issues. i noticed the clicking sound. don't remember if it did that the whole time, but ? one day i could not get it to turn over. could not see any fuel reaching the carb. i replaced the fuel pump and filter. the new pump is clicking also. i got it to start and drove a short distance. don't want to get stuck somewhere. i attached a sound file of the click with the car running. this is just a phone recording about 4 inches away from the fuel pump under the car.
I don't believe that your fuel pump "clicking" is an anomaly. My fuel pump clicks also on an 83 Accord. I can open the door and lean out to hear it. The fuel pump looks like this:
this one is similar. has a 3 hole mount, but still below the driver seat, left of the tire. i would just find it odd honda would sell new cars with a clicking fuel pump. i never heard it with an 81 or 79 i owned in the past. this is loud enough to hear it from inside, or just standing next to it outside.
thanks for letting me know yours clicks also.
