Ignition stays on after removing key
Hi, I have a 1993 Accord CB7 facing a problem where ignition stays on after removing the keys. Order of events are as follow:
- At first the car cranking very slow (feels like a weak battery)
- ECU fuse in the main fuse box popped.
- after changing the fuse, the car ignition suddenly came on even when the key is removed.
- Now the car won't even cranked and the ignition stays on.
- Jump start the battery with another car (doesn't even try to crank; dead silence)
- Unplugging the ignition switch plug from the kick panel fuse box (the ignition still stays on)
- Unplugging the ECU entirely (the ignition still stays on)

I would start with these two things:
If there is a bad solenoid on the starter and perhaps it is fused permanently engaging the starter (on the starter it's self)
The wires on the back of the key switch, the contacts could be worn so badly that they are permanently connected.

Hi, thank you for the reply, I tried unplugging the key switch wire directly from the source (kickpanel fuse box) but I got a problem where the ignition still stuck on the on position. All the stuff (windows, light on the dashboard, etc.) Still works and lights up even when I removed the key. I have no clue if there's a shor in the electrical system somewhere.
If you have to mess with anything related to the airbag (yellow harness and connectors) disconnect the battery FIRST, wait 5 minutes, then unplug the airbag and use the deadhead red connector to plug that yellow plug into, before reconnecting the battery. You shouldn't have to mess with the airbag at all, just figured I'd mention it.
If unplugging the ignition switch doesn't have any effect, then you will have to start tracing back from there.
The ECU fuse blowing tells me there is a short somewhere, so I would grab a manual that includes the wiring diagrams. I use a Chilton's for this.
Then just trace back from the source, IE ignition switch.
Hey guys, I found the solution to my weird problem.
As Micro1989lxi mentioned something about the starter, i tried pop starting the car (Manual) since the fuel pump is working and the ECU fuse doesn't blow when i changed it. After i popped start the car, it runs, and when I shut it off, now the ignition stays off. Hope this helps someone with similar issue. Turns out i need a new starter now
Thank you to everyone for the help.
