Default CEL Help 98 Civic Hatchback DX

Looking for some smog help. Live in CA so already know having cars in CA sucks. No i’m not moving. Previous owner half assed the swap and my kid was dumb and bought it and can’t go back in time and not buy it so need to fix it and get it smogged and on the road . So here’s the dilemma, it’s throwing a P0505 for Idle Air Control System. So seems like probably need a new IACv, problem is which do i need, the 2 wire or 3 wire IACV or what should i look into changing?

Car itself is a 98 Hatchback that was originally auto thats been manual swapped. It currently has an auto y8 motor but has a y7 intake manifold. The ECU i believe is from a manual ‘99 EX with code 37820-P2P-A12. are there any difference in the IAVC’s besides being 2 vs 3 wire? which should i get? should i, or do i need to swap the intake manifold also and find a y8 manifold for a manual?

thanks in advanced.

Get all parts from a 96-98 y8 only. The wiring diagrams are out there.

for smog purposes everything would need to match to 99 though. car has to be smogged as a 99 due to the year of the motor. so i’m guess would have to convert from obd2a to obd2b or whatever 99’s are?

Use all 96-98 parts period. It's a direct replacement engine.

hasn’t worked out that way so far. had a new 98 cat and had to get a 99 because the carb numbers were different.

I don't live in a place where emissions testing is required, but from what I recall hearing, the requirements followed the year of the chassis VIN, engines older than the chassis were not allowed and "truck" engines can't go in cars. That last one came up when someone wanted to put a CR-V B20 in their Civic I think.

If you can share the specifics of the law you need to meet to pass then maybe the collective knowledge here can get you the answers you're looking for.

The specifics of the law are its a direct replacement engine. The chassis is a 98, all parts used should be from 96-98 obd2a but he doesnt want to listen.
