i've got a leaky black top cooler pipe joint. so i bought new pipes and clips + a new joint and washer
the old joint does have a little bit of rust on it, but a big *** thread on the back of it and i'm thinking i'm going to do more damage than good trying to remove it. plus i have a copy of a workshop manual for the H22A and it doesn't have the torque specs for the joint; which is also telling me not to do it
so basically i'm wondering if i should replace the joint or best just leave it alone
to answer my own question for anybody doing this: i've got a spare black top lying around that i'd forgotten about. so i practised taking the joint out of that one first to see what happened. it wasn't very happy about it, but it came off with a rattle gun. i then did the same to the one in my car
so you get the green light from me to do this. however, if you crack your block and have to take your car to the scrapyard, my name is Bob Luggwollerchops and here's my phone number -3763290674218931248978561
These fittings are installed at the factory with a bit of thread-lock. Removing them slowly is always best. Re-install with a fresh crush washer and torque to 33 ft/lbs.
