The car is still sitting in non-running condition. I wanted to check the compression today and the starter wouldn't turn over, the battery is fully charged but the starter makes clicking and buzzing noises. It would do this when the battery was low or when the connectors weren't fully secured. Just about 2 weeks ago I checked and the starter would turn over fine.
Could this be that the starter is giving out and I need to replace it? Or could it be something else with the connectors.
The only recent thing I have done was install gauges, but they don't affect the starter.
UPDATE: So my dad helped me out by hitting the starter lightly and we learned that there is a short circuit somewhere in the engine bay. I think I know the cause of this and I will check it tomorrow.
We got the compression readings and they are:
Cyl 1: 185 psi (we didnt manage to turn the engine over fully but I will check again once the short-circuiting issue is fixed)
Cyl 2: 220 psi
Cyl 3: 220 psi
Cyl 4: 210 psi
I replaced the head gasket very recently, are these healthy numbers for my engine?
I checked where the short could be coming from, I unplugged all the gauges thinking it could have been a wire from those, but no avail. I didn't find any wires that could have caused a short.
Something very weird is happening, when the starter tries to turn over the oil feed line for my turbo gets very hot. Red hot as if electricity was being passed through it
It's not connected anywhere other than the oil filter spacer, its touching the intake, but thats about it.
why would this be happening? Could the starter be shorting and causing this? I have a fire extinguisher in case anything happens but I'm not sure how to continue diagnosing this.
