Default EF civic d series swap

I recently picked up a ef 1988 Civic dx hatchback. I am pretty new to the honda platform, actually my first civic. I have a D16Y8 engine and was planning to pair it with a 5 speed from a CRX Si (L3-2395043) . I just wanted insight on what im getting myself into. I plan on going through and redoing all the gaskets, water and oil pump on the engine and addressing anything else that needs done. I have the transmission axels and shiftage linkage and all. Does anyone have any experience with this swap or a parts list or anything to help. My main concern is the wiring of the whole thing, the person who had the car before me fucked up all the wiring and its pretty much spaghetti. id appretiate any info or insight on things for a newbie to the honda scene.

What is in it now, a D15? Hardly seems worth the effort just for 0.1 liter increase
Is there a problem with the current engine?

unfamiliar with D-series? somehow that 100cc increase makes 30% more power assuming the stock D15B2 is still in there. not big power numbers still, but if the parts are still out there for a reasonable price it is a worthwhile upgrade.

OP. check the FAQ primarily section 7 and 8, read this one too. A D16Z6 may be a little less effort on wiring and engine management, but essentially the same performance.

is the car already manual or will you need to do auto to manual too?

how extensive is the wire harness "damage"?

the car already had a dy16 swapped in, though i am planning on pulling it and going through it. And by the looks of it seems like they attempted to convert from OBD0 to OBD2 but did not do it properly or nicely. but i am still learning about the wiring aspect and ECU aspect of it all as well.
