Default Changing where VTEC engages

I have a 1992 civic vx, it has VTEC-E which engages around 2500 rpms, I am looking to get a transmission out of a "EX civic" to have closer gears and a higher final drive, the only concern is that ill be well past 2500rpms doing highway driving and Im curious how I can adjust when VTEC kicks in, I'd prefer it to kick in at around 4K or so, preferably 5K (1k below redline). Could I take it to a shop that specializes in tunes to get this done or would I need to get a tuner?

Thank you

You can adjust the VTEC engagement via tuning software. Since it’s stock, why adjust it?

Yeah, but if you modify the P07 ecu to make it tunable (or swap in a P28/etc) ecu, you lose all of the goodness that makes the D15Z1 what it is and just end up with a gutless 1.5l. OP, leave it alone and enjoy getting 50+ MPG.

Because unless I want to stay at the same exact speed I gotta be past were Vtec kicks in, and this ruins my gas mileage, I get roughly 30-32mpg, the same mpg I got in my 95 Del sol S. By having it up near 4-5K i would actually get better mileage, plus when vtec-E "kicks in", there is absolutely no difference in the power it makes, just ruins my mileage.

How can I make this engine any more gutless?? Youve obviously never driven a VX or are out of your mind to think this thing could get 50mpg and be anymore gutless. All VX owners talk about how you cant get 50 mpg and are lucky to get 40 even. Even if you drove slower than a grandma and went 0-60 in a minute you arent getting anywhere close to 50mpg. Also changing where vtec-e kicks in would hardly make it more gutless, again, you've obviously haven't drove one because when vtec kicks in you do not gain anymore power and its just as gutless at 2k as it is at 3k
