Default B16A Installed in 2000 Civic DX with PR3-J01 ECU

Hi Everyone,

I've been working on swapping a B16 into my 2000 civic hatch. The seller provided me with a harness and an ECU, the swap was previously installed in an EG. I want to know if there are any challenges with getting it wired and running in my OBD2 car.

The ECU I have is a 37820-PR3-J01 which I believe is a OBD0 ECU. I believe the engine I have is a B16A2 out of a 99-00 Si, but I have no way of confirming as the vin/serial number is missing, I remember checking the head stamp and I'm pretty sure its a B16A2. Does this mean that the engine was converted to OBD1 and then using an adapter harness to convert to OBD0, or is it possible to convert directly from OBD2 to OBD0?

Apologies in advance for being a noob, I'm new to this and don't really understand the different ECU's/OBD/Engine differences and I'm looking to learn.

Thank you

You can't readily run an OBD1/2 engine with an OBD0 ecu, and there's no good reason to. The OBD0 distributors have different tooth counts on the sensor wheels. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think the ecu you have is OBD1... 93-ish year.

Your easiest route to get the car running is to find a good-condition OE harness for a 99-00 Si (100% plug & play), 99-00 EX (minor re-arranging required), 99-01 CR-V manual trans (add vtec wires required), or (best option) new aftermarket Rywire/Wireworx/etc harness. If you don't have to worry about emissions testing or ever having to have an oem ecu in the car again you can order a new harness that will plug up to your obd1 ecu without a jumper harness.

Someone labeled the top of the ECU with "92-93 GSR B17A", so maybe it is an OBD1 ECU? I guess I'll double check the connectors to see.

Thankfully I don't have to worry about emissions or not having an OEM ECU in the car and would rather keep it OBD1. In that case I should be able to use the harness and ECU the seller gave me. I have to double check, but I think the harness is a 99-00 Si harness and there is a OBD2 -> OBD1 adapter that plugs into the ECU.

That would be the most straightforward route.

https://www.google.com/search?q=37820-PR3-J01

You can see its obd1 if you just google it. Integra xsi

Google is super helpful with determining what things are what.

There is an obd1 and obd2 vtec distributor. They are identical except pinouts (same functions). Google honda obd1 to obd2 distributor pinout if you wanted to re-pin. Nice pictures will come up. They also sell adapters for cheap, amazon ebay.

Your stock dx harness will work fine with an obd2 to obd1 ecu adapter.

And a vtec subharness (3 wires you could make yourself). Google honda obd1 pinout for vtc and vtp pin locations. Theres also youtube videos on how to make this kinda stuff. Its $20 in materials, or $35 bucks on google it looks like..

You also need to do iac 3 to 2 wire conversion. Again google it, google images has nice graphics for doing it.
