So, I have a '94 Del Sol with a D16Z6 and a manual transmission it in. Its a project car that my roommate and I had bought to work on slowly. Unfortunately, my daily driver was involved in an accident and got totaled so the project car has moved up in priority. We've dropped the car off with a family friend's shop for repair since neither of us has the time to work on it because we both have full time jobs. So far, most of the stuff that needs replacing are suspension components and the steering rack. One item of concern is that the ECM may be failing in some way. The ECM the car has is a P28. I haven't had any success in finding a direct replacement at a salvage yard and buying one off of ebay for $300+ without knowing if those have problems doesn't sound like a great idea. What I have been able to find are ECMs from other Civics with D16s but they're automatics. Would I be able to use one of those or are there better alternatives that I can get, if at least to test whether or not the stock ECM is bad?
In the event that the P28 ECM is bad, is there a good place to have it fixed, assuming that it can be fixed?
It can be fixed. There are plenty of reputable companies that can repair it back to working condition. If want a refurbished one, go with this. I am running the same ECU on my Del sol, bought it from HAMotorsports as well.
I ended up folding and just buying a replacement P28 ECM from ebay for $220. It just arrived today. I'm going to take it to the mechanic working on the Del Sol after work. Here's to hoping it works.
