Mom’s car pops PO128 code and won’t pass smog!
Hello Everyone
Please help me determine what’s going on with my mom‘s car. I am at a point where I am getting extremely frustrated with this issue.
my mom‘s car is a 2007 Honda Civic EX with a J in the Vin number. To recap, she developed a check engine light sometime ago and the car would not get to temperature. The first time around I changed the thermostat that was actually stuck open and , the sensor next to the thermostat, the code with the scan tool. The light was off for a bit of then reappeared.
Then I changed the second sensor by the lower radiator hose, changed with fresh Honda fluid, bled the system, and went for a ride to check everything. There was no leaks. The level in the overflow was good and the light didn’t appear until a few days ago. Please note that I used all Honda Parts and the coolant was also Honda
. I also did the hard reset by disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes reconnecting and running the car at idle for 15 minutes and then going for a 45 minute drive for the computer to relearn everything. It lasted a few days and then the light came on again.
I also changed a water pump as well. No not only is the vehicle popping the same code. It will not pass smog in California because it has incompletes.
I am quite frustrated at this point as what else it could be. we have additionally taken it to our mechanic that has always helped us out, but even he is out of ideas. Next week we’re going to take it to the Honda dealership for a diagnosis. See what they say, but I still would like to maybe resolve it until we have to pay a lot of money too fix it.
