I need some assistance in trying to identify this significant oil leak. I have looked through the Civic repair/service manual, and I'm unable to find anything that helps. Long story short, my 00 Civic hatchback has been parked and stored in the garage for over 15 years. I have started it up periodically every now and then just to keep things moving internally.
Anyhow, this weekend, as I started up, I had never noticed this, but I have a significant hole in the back of the head between the valve cover and intake manifold. It looks like there is suppose to be something there, but I cannot identify what goes there. The car is bone stock, and no engine modifications have been done.
I believe there is an oil galley plug there... you will have to remove the intake manifold to repair it. Remove the plug, clean all surfaces, apply thread tape/paste and re-install the plug.

Yeah, there's that. Those plugs do not like coming out... that's for sure. I have never seen them leak when left alone... only after they have been messed with. OP - When removing, be careful, deliberate, and go SLOW. If it doesn't just get loose and come right out... use the "Half turn out, then a quarter turn back in" method... wait thirty seconds, and then repeat. The plug is an Allen key style receptacle, so make sure you have fully inserted the tool to the bottom of the hole and you are perfectly aligned perpendicular to the plane of the hole/plug. Getting off-line even a little bit opens the door to stripping out the fitting.
As I mentioned in my original post, the car hasn't been driven or tampered with since I stored it. I'm not exactly sure how this happened.
Anyhow, I've been Googling and searching everywhere, but do any of you know the part number for this Galley oil plug? I've called the Honda dealership, and they're stumped and unable to assist me. Thanks again!
There is no part number... the plug is installed when the head casting is created. To get one from Honda, you would have to buy a bare cylinder head. The only reason you would need another one is if it is MISSING. In that case, I believe a 1/8" NPT plug will suffice. You can order those online... or likely get them at a hardware store, nut-n-bolt house, or even a big box home improvement store like Lowes or Home Depot.

Things just happen, there is no rhyme or reason as to why a car just sitting there developed a leak, they just do. As far as a part number, if you can get the plug out without damage, then just take it to a hardware store or a Honda dealer and ask for a new one
