Hello I just started working on a civic I picked up several years ago, it's in rough shape and I want to start saving it. Was sitting for several years before that. Quite a while I know. Today I just got it running and it sounds pretty unpleasant. Can anyone familiar with these tell me what they hear? My plan was to get it running so I can drive it to a shop for timing belt/water pump. But the way it sounds right now worries me about driving it at all. Also another issue is after a minute or so the rpms start surging. Thank you.

 

To me it sounds like the bearings in one or more of you accessories are shot ( AC, PS or Alternator). Noise could also be your timing belt rubbing on the inside of the cover or a bad tesioner bearing.
