Default D16y8 turbo over heating issues

I recently build my d16y8 bottom end (Vitara pistons with speed factory no notch rods) around 2 months ago. I’ve had an over heating issue and it started maybe a month ago. It has all new gaskets upgraded radiator dual core, upgraded fan, mishimoto low temp thermostat and fan switch. I’ve been having over heating issues mainly when it’s 85F or hotter outside but stays under temp on idle. It does have an oil cooled turbo I was thinking of getting an oil cooler and hood louvers to see if that fixed my problem. However it doesn’t seem right because I am only pushing around 2-3psi with my turbo. I thought it was my head gasket but I have had no milky oil, oil in my radiator or oil in my cylinders. I’m thinking it’s a bad intake manifold gasket but I’m unsure. If anyone knows please help.

Thank you

How close is your exhaust to your radiator? You need at least 1.5-2in clearance minimum or exhaust heat soaks the cooling system.

Maybe its not bled well enough.

Also try to reduce intake air temps. In my experience ramhorn manifolds make that difficult as they like to saturate the head with heat. Not sure what you have but just sayin

Thanks for responding, I thought it was heat soak because I do not have a turbo blanket but I do have my exhaust and manifold(it’s a cast manifold) heat wrapped. And my exhaust is in a different location than the radiator. I only have a filter on the intake part of my turbo so I’m not sure if it’s only getting hot air which could be the case and I would just need to get some intake piping. But I am still not sure. I’ll post a picture of the set up.

Just an observation but the surface area of your intake filter is probably less than that of a factory non-turbo engine. I would try to extend the intake to the turbo away from the radiator and fit a larger cone filter or fabricate a filter box like an ARC box.

That doesn't look too bad for radiator to turbo spacing. Usually I'm used to the exhaust exiting toward the transmission side, not the timing belt side. So how's the exhaust route beneath the engine? How close is the exhaust to the oil pan?

the exhaust doesn’t touch the oil pan and it has some decent clearance it’s also heat wrapped most of the way down.

The over heating started like 2 months ago so I got a new radiator 6 weeks ago and I installed a new thermostat like 3 days ago and I’ve still had trouble I’m thinking now it’s my water pump.

If it's staying cool idling with the fan on but hot while driving around, it's probably an issue with air flow being blocked by the FMIC. What tuning software are you using? The stock settings will turn off your fan over a certain vehicle speed. You may need to change it to keep the fan running regardless of vehicle speed but solely based on ECT.

Do what you can to open up more air flow into the engine bay and direct it to the radiator. A block off plate to the side of the radiator that is open to force all of the air to flow through it should help.

Here is an example of what my block off plate looks like. Between that, cutting out more of the front bumper opening, venting the hood, and keeping my fan running I've brought my ECT down from 205+ to low 190's while cruising on a hot day. Also be sure to use a high flow SPAL fan
