Default 99 Civic - SERIOUS front end problem

99 Civic , d16z6 (del sol engine)

So I tried to do a burnt out and something broke.. I had it in reverse going back wards, and when I dropped the clutch in 1st gear something instantly let go in the driver side!!

It felt like the front driver side wheel was hopping(and lifting the front end) and folding over it self. Something is smacking together hard. I managed to crawl it home but if u hit 1/4 throttle is feels like the driver side is absolutely folding.

I’ve replaced all my ball joints, control arms, tie rods, sway bar links, strut mounts, and strut fork bushing. Problem is still there. The cv axels are completely intact and in properly.

Does anyone know what my problem is? I’m worried that potentially I blew the differential? I jacked the car up and got on the gas, but the problem only happens under load. I’m guessing is an open diff becusse only the passenger side moved, but I don’t know if when it’s under loader maybe the differential doesn’t want to let the driver side move and causes it to jump and smack in **** ?? But I don’t really know what I’m talking about so please help me !!!

You definitely broke something inside the transmission.

Have you checked the bushings/washers/nuts on the end of the radius rods going into the front crossmember? Or is the nut still on each one infront of the washer of the bushing? If those are intact and still tight, you should not have play from front to back motion of the wheel.
If those check out ok, your next possible failure is unfortionately inside the tranny..

What ?!? Radius rods haven't been found in a Civic chassis since 1991... and the car in question is a 1999. Since there are NO radius rods here, the second part of your response is unfortunately likely correct.

Pull an axle out of the transmission and peek inside the differential area... if anything sits offset in the hole/opening, or is moving around... you have discovered your problem. Pull the transmission and either fix it or replace it.

I had to laugh at myself on that one, just after working on a '89 civic I had a brain fart mentioning the radius rods!
Hopefully the OP learned not to do that again! And myself for being dumb and mentioning incorrect info!

You aren't dumb... you just had an "old man" moment and mis-spoke... it happens to me all the time.
