Hey everyone, new to the forums. My friend and I just recently picked up a 1990 Hatch which is leaking coolant. We have identified the leak as coming from the water pump inlet pipe. Does anyone know how I would go about replacing this part? What do I need to remove to access it and put a new on in?
It is a fairly easy part to replace though unless the metal pipe has a hole in it, the pipe itself should not need to be replaced. Could possibly be the feed hose off it seeping down or just a failed o-ring.
All that is needed to remove it is - drain the coolant, remove the hose off the side of the pipe, unbolt the thermostat housing from the bloçk and then you can remove it but may be stuck in there pretty good if it's never been off before.
On each end of the pipe, there is a large o-ring.
Tip - it is a good idea to "wet" the o-rings with a bit of coolant to help slip into the bores when installing the pipe in place because of it being a fairly snug fit and you don't want the o-ring to roll or pinch.
