05 CRV tranny swap: GPPA (UK) with MKZA (JDM) [ Transmission experts, please help ? ]
Hi all. (See signature for CRV specs).
I'm preparing to swap my dead GPPA transmission with a MKZA.
I got mine off eBay. According to the seller, the MKZA is a drop-in replacement, which he claims does not require the Japan ECU nor any reprogramming.
According to Reddit and my research, the MKZA transmission is a compatible replacement for the GPPA.
I figured I'd get another opinion from this site as well...
Are there any documented cases, other than this one, where someone has swapped in a MKZA transmission where the original was GPPA?
Does the country of manufacture matter? (So for example, a MKZA transmission made in UK vs MKZA transmission made in Japan?)
At this point, I'm just waiting for the 12 ton 30" max height jack stands to get here, and for the transmission and engine mounting rubber bushings to arrive from Japan (Amayama).
One way or another, I'll find out... because no way in hell am I paying $2500+ for a used UK GPPA transmission with 200k+ miles (they are exceedingly rare these days).
Thank you.

I’m in the middle of it now, and it’s shifting weird and doesn’t want to go uphill or over 60 mph. Haven’t swapped the transfer case because Honda said they should be the same part number. Looking at the powertrain control unit next
Hey.
I did this last year and the car is working 100% great as of present, and is my dad's daily driver.
As a reminder, here are the parts I've reused from the old transmission, after cleaning them out with Kooler Kleen:
* all linear shift solenoids
* metal cooler lines
* lower clutch pressure switch
For the full guide that I made, see:

Re-using a used JDM transmission is kind of a gamble as well. Especially if you don't replace the torque converter.
Good luck.
Could a moderator please advise how I can mark this thread as resolved, and/or close it as resolved?
Thank you.
